Wild Weekend

What a crazy-go-nuts weekend! Finished construction on the new building, and it looks gorgeous. The official name is Ungdomshuset, which means “youth house” in Norwegian and Danish. The name was selected largely out of symbolic solidarity for the original Ungdomshuset in Denmark which served as a meeting-point for many leftist groups from 1982 until its demolition in 2007. I have big plans for this little building, and I hope I can bring them to fruition. While no longer a cafe as such, coffee will definitely be on offer at all functions. Once we are a little closer to an official opening, I will announce it here. (The “U” will also serve as a residence for me and my flatmate, Darion Rasmuson. Meanwhile, I’m on the lookout for a small parcel of nearby land that might function as a proper residence.)

The Lounge of Dreams was the place to be this weekend, with “80’s Night” on Friday and “Red Night” on Saturday - “Red Night” kicking off a week of consecutive theme-nights based on the colors of the Gay Pride flag. I went as Joan Jett on Friday and was flabbergasted when I was voted “Best Female Costume”! Another surprise of Friday night was the presence of Pathfinder Linden, who doffed some marvelous costumes - including a member of Kraftwerk and Q*Bert. He clearly enjoyed his time with the Lounge crowd and plans to return!

I apologize to anyone who might have been on the receiving end of my OCD concerning the “U”. I’ve been obsessing over every little aspect of the building - right down to the seams in the ceiling. Some of the furniture I initially bought for the cafe might work - what I can’t use, I might put up for sale. If you’re looking for some low-prim furniture, I might be able to hook you up dirt-cheap.

Oh, and one odd thing to recount - I had my first direct experience with a griefer this weekend. Well, I’m not even sure he was a “griefer” as such. I was obsessing over minutia at the “U” when suddenly, I noticed a naked male figure in the room with me. He was wearing a ski-mask, brandishing something that could have possibly been a knife, and was - shall we say - “biologically deficient”. When I acknowledged his presence, he went into something akin to an epileptic seizure for about a minute and then teleported out of the room. (His name, for the record, was “Glynn Ivory”.) I’m almost inclined to label it “performance art for an audience of one”.

Planting Roots (In More Ways Than One)

Hey, there!  I will be moving the blog over here very shortly.  I’m sorry there haven’t been more updates, but as you’ve probably guessed, I’ve been incredibly busy!  The cafe is coming along quite nicely, although I’m bucking up against the prim limit on the current building.  I’m really torn between staying with the current structure and decorating sparsely with low-prim furniture, or getting some breathing room by accepting a lower-prim construction.  I looked at some lower-prim buildings that had a more urban look, and a few of them I really like.

Of course, there is a third option - approaching the realtor who owns the land surrounding the cafe and asking if he’d be willing to part with a few hundred square meters.  I did speak with him earlier though, and the land he owns has been seriously devalued since he bought it - so if he was willing to sell, I would have to pay a hyper-premium just so he could break even.  That is, of course, if he even wants to sell.

The trials and tribulations of entrepreneurship!

By the way, I’ve been trying to decide what to call the cafe.  I think I’ve settled on “Second Cup”.  Does anyone have a better idea?
